Last June we packed up our house in North Vancouver, BC in anticipation for our move to Europe. We arrived in Hojbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark in July to begin Ian's 18month expat contract to an empty house and very welcoming neighbours!
The support of our family and friends and the graciousness of our new Danish friends has made the transition to life in Denmark easier for not only us but the kids as well.
Our first year has taken us to some wonderful places that we would never have been able to visit while still living in Canada. Our family holiday in Crete was amazing and the kids still say it was the best so far! We also had the chance to go to Edinburgh and Hamburg, Barcelona, Berlin and to the Cotes du Rhone in the South of France. We also spent two weeks in London for a family Christmas. It was wonderful for Ian to be able to share that time with his Aunts and Uncles and cousins and for the kids to meet them as well. I have also had the opportunity to travel as well, meeting up with a girlfriend from Canada in Amsterdam for a great week away. Ian has been travelling the world for his job as well. Visiting such places as St.Petersburg, Siberia, Canada and the US.
We are hoping to extend to our stay just a bit, but cannot wait to come home to Canada!

Our Trip to Berlin!


After Annika and Hayden 's last day of school we packed the car and made the 6 1/2 hour drive to Berlin, Germany. The drive actually ended up being more like 7 1/2 hours because our GPS took us about 120kms out of the way. We were meeting Ian's Dad, his wife Brenda and her daughter Clary for a quick weekend away.
We did what we do in every new city we visit...The Hop-on Hop-off City bus tour! I love those tours! This enabled us to see the sites quickly and we were able to decide where we wanted to go back to. We decided on the Memorial of Murdered Jews and of the remnants of the Berlin Wall.
The Memorial of Murdered Jews was hauntingly beautiful and brought tears to my eyes knowing how lucky my Polish Grandparents were that they were Catholic upon their capture during WW II.
The Berlin Wall was amazing to see. I was surprised that it was not that high or thick, but I am sure it was much more imposing with barb wire and armed guards. We took a family photo in front of the wall. I thought that the graffiti "Madness" was fitting.
